Hotel : Chronicle

“Zehntkeller” was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1436, when the Augustinian monastery of Birklingen acquired it. It was used as “Möchshove” and domicile of the convent. In 1545, the building became royal administrative buidling of
the Diocese of Würzburg.

In 1723 the city of Iphofen acquired the property to give it along with 150 oak trees to the Juliusspital Würzburg, on condition to put up a building of decorative value for the city.

After its completion it was used as official residence by the “Zentgrafen” and the “Zentgericht” until it was passed into private hands in 1850. “Zehntkeller” is now in the hands of Family Seufert since three generations. In the course of time it became a wine tavern, then a rural restaurant and finally a hotel.
